St. Joseph Police is warning residents of a recent phone scam.
Over the last couple of weeks, residents have reported receiving calls from a man claiming to be Sgt. James Langston with St. Joseph Police.
The caller is reportedly telling people that they were supposed to testify in Federal Court and failed to show up and as a result, a warrant will be issued for their arrest if they do not send money in the form of gift cards.
The caller is also using spoofing technology to make it appear as if they're calling from the Department’s 271-4777 number.
Police are urging people to not send money to anyone identifying themselves as a police officer.
St. Joseph Police says officers will never contact anyone by phone, requesting any payment in order to avoid having an arrest warrant issued.
