Donald Butcher December 21, 1944-January 13, 2026

Donald Paul Butcher, 81, St. Joseph, Missouri; left his earthly home to be joined with the Lord on Tuesday, January 13, 2026, surrounded by his loving family.

Donald was born on December 21, 1944 in Bethany, Missouri to the late George and Lida (Mitchell) Butcher.  He was a 1963 graduate of Bethany High School and attended 2 years at Northwest Missouri State University. 

Mr. Butcher was a proud American and Vietnam Veteran, serving in the U.S. Army from 1965-1967.

Donald married Linda Jean Mackey on August 27, 1967 in Tarkio, Missouri.  They celebrated fifty-eight years of marriage and together raised their two children, Todd and Shauna.  Donald was a devoted husband, loving father, proud grandfather and was elated to become a recent great-grandfather.

Donald began his long standing career at Quaker Oats in January 1968 and dedicated thirty-three years until its closing in 2000.  In February 2002, he began working at Northwest Psychiatric Rehab Hospital until retiring in 2020.  

Donald was a loving and faithful servant of the Lord.  He was a member of Frederick Boulevard Baptist Church, where he attended bible classes and volunteered.

Donald loved to be outdoors, he would often be found working meticulously in his yard, tinkering in his garage or attending his grandchildren's sporting events.  He was a talented landscaper and was instrumental in transforming the grounds at Heaton-Bowman-Smith Savannah Chapel. He enjoyed collecting antiques, and attending estate sales, garage sales and flea markets.

He was quick witted, with a keen sense of humor that made friendships come easily. He was extremely loving, kind and deeply proud of his family.  He will be dearly missed by all that knew and loved him.

Surviving are his wife, Linda, of the home; son, Todd Butcher, Kansas City, MO; daughter, Shauna Jackson (Brad), St. Joseph, MO; grandchildren, Hayley Morrison (Tysan), Ashlyn, Delaney, Carys and Gavin Butcher and Brittney, Luke and Ben Jackson and great-granddaughter, Scottie Lynn; David Mustard and Ellie, Alex and Donovan Mustard and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

In addition to his parents, Donald was preceded in death by his brothers, James Butcher and Richard Maddy; sisters, Carol Louis Butcher, Lavesta "Penny" Hardy and Georgia Barr.      

Funeral Service 11:30 AM Saturday, January 17, 2026 at Frederick Boulevard Church, where the family will receive friends 10:00 to 11:30 AM prior to the service.  Mr. Butcher will be cremated following the service with Inurnment at Savannah Cemetery at a later day.        

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested memorial donations to Frederick Boulevard Church Mission or St. Joseph Christian School Athletics.
