The Kansas City Royals took an early lead against the Cleveland Guardians on Labor Day, but after that offense was hard to come by in a series opening 4-2 loss at Kauffman Stadium.

An RBI double from Maikel Garcia scored first baseman Yuli Gurriel for the Royals in the second inning.  And Kansas City would hold that lead until the fifth inning, when the Guardians Lane Thomas hit a two run to give his team the lead.

Another two run homer came for Cleveland in the sixth inning, this time off the bat of Josh Naylor.  The Royals would add their final run in the eighth inning, a sacrifice fly from Kyle Isbel scoring Freddy Fermin.

Royals starting pitcher Michael Wacha took the loss, giving up two runs over five innings.  The Royals only managed two hits in the loss, one from Garcia and the other coming from Gurriel.

Kansas City will try to even up the series with Cleveland, and also snap a season worst six game losing streak, on Tuesday with Brady Singer taking the mound against Tanner Bibee.  First pitch is at 6:40pm with pregame at 6pm on KFEQ.
