The Kansas City Royals broke a 2-2 tie in the top of the 10th with three runs scored and they hung on to beat the Chicago White Sox 5-2 in extras Thursday afternoon. The Royals took two out of three in the series.
Whit Merrifield scored on a passed ball, and Kyle Isbel had a two-run RBI single to break the tie. Brad Keller lasted seven innings while making the start on the mound, striking out three batters and allowing just three hits.
Josh Staumont got the win, Taylor Clarke got the save, striking out two in the 10th. The Royals return home Friday to open a three-game set with the Yankees. First pitch Friday is set for 7:10. Coverage starts at 6:30 on KFEQ Radio (680, 95.3). Kris Bubic will start on the mound.
Roster moves
The Royals recalled Kyle Isbel and Emmanuel Rivera from Triple-A Omaha, while pitcher Brady Singer was optioned to Omaha Thursday.
Shortstop Adalberto Mondesi could be out for the season with a torn ACL in his left knee. He played in only 35 games in 2021 because of left hamstring and left oblique injuries.
