A precautionary boil advisory is in effect for St. Joseph area Missouri American Water customers.

Missouri American Water issued a statement on Friday that said that customers might notice cloudy water, but that it is temporary.&nbsp;

Customers who have signed up for emergency notifications should be notified about the advisory.&nbsp; The advisory is precautionary and the hope is that it will be lifted in the next 24 to 48 hours.&nbsp;

Water for drinking should be boiled for up to three minutes on a rolling boil.&nbsp; Water that is to be used for bathing, washing, or non drinking is safe to use
