John William (Bill) Weishaar, 90, died on Saturday, February 3, 2024, at the family home where he lived his entire life.
Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, Feb 6th, 2024, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Nortonville, KS. A parish rosary will be recited beginning at 10:00 am followed by visitation with the family until time of service at the church. Memorial contributions are suggested to the Nortonville Knights of Columbus or to St. Joseph’s Cemetery and may be sent in care of the Becker-Dyer-Stanton and O’Trimble Funeral Homes who is entrusted with his services. Mr. Weishaar was born on June 27, 1933, in Nortonville, KS. Mr. Weishaar graduated from St. Joseph’s Grade School. Following graduation, he worked on the family farm until enlisting in the United States Army in 1953. He served in the Active Army until 1955 achieving the rank of Private First Class. He continued to serve his country in the U.S. Army Reserve until he was honorably discharged on May 1, 1961. After serving on active duty, he returned to Nortonville and resumed farming with his father, John J. Weishaar and his two brothers, Harold and Gerald, which began a strong personal and working relationship that would endure for decades. Mr. Weishaar actively farmed until 2021.
Bill bought the family farm from his sisters in 1965 and then married Mary Louise Schmidt on April 23, 1966, at Corpus Christi Catholic Church in Mooney Creek, KS. They were married for almost 50 years until her death on March 8, 2016. They lived and raised their children on the family farm. He was a devoted husband, loving father and faithful friend. Mr. Weishaar is survived by his four children: Carl (Joetta) Weishaar; Jim Weishaar; Mary (Bree) Weishaar; and Ann (Jerrod) Glaser; five grandchildren Haley, Dakota, Mason, Joshua and Nevaeh; and three great-grandchildren Taylah, Braxtyn and Cassidy; He was preceded in death by his wife and infant son Stephen John; his parents John J. and Cecilia (Bertels) Weishaar; his brothers Harold and Gerald; and his sisters Dorothy Domann, Ruth Forge, Mildred Weishaar, Marcelline Weishaar and Geraldine Weishaar.
Bill was a life-long member of St. Joseph’s parish in Nortonville and a Fourth Degree Knight of Columbus.
