As the warm summer months approach, the United Way of Greater St. Joseph is distributing fans throughout the community in an effort to help residents stay cool.

Fans will be available at four locations throughout St. Joseph for residents who need them.  Fans will be available at the United Way building on Fifth Street, Interserv on King Hill Avenue, Northwest Missouri Community Services on Sixth Street, and at the Salvation Army on Messanie Street.  Distribution locations will each have different hours of operation.

The United Way location is open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.  The Interserv location will be open from 1 p.m. to 3:45 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday at the food pantry entrance.  The Northwest Missouri Community Services location will be open from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.  Starting June 1, the Salvation Army location will be open from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. Monday through Friday.

The project is an effort to prevent the negative impacts to physical, psychological and behavioral health. Studies show a correlation between excessive heat and rises in domestic violence, stress and health related conditions.
