Martha Alice Haltom passed away peacefully on Saturday morning, April 5 at home where she lived with her daughter for almost 3 years. She was born on April 29, 1936 to Gussie Etter Miller and Jesse Wiley Miller. Martha grew up on a large farm outside of Americus KS with many brothers and sisters. She went to school in Americus KS where she loved playing on the basketball team. After high school, Martha worked for Hallmark cards in Emporia KS. She married Carol Haltom in 1958 in Dunlop KS. The couple moved to Leavenworth KS in 1968. She kept the books for the tire store she owned with her husband Carol, C&M Tire in Leavenworth KS. Martha was a loving grandmother to her grandson and granddaughter. She was the school pick up provider as well as a hands-on playmate.. Martha loved her many kitties she had through the years. She loved fishing with her husband, putting together puzzles, planting flowers and taking care of her roses. Martha was preceded in death by her parents; husband Carol; brothers George, Claude, Chester and Lee; sisters Anne Perry and Belle Warnica. She is survived by daughter Brenda Scharnhorst, granddaughter Halley Pfrimmer (Nicholas), great granddaughter Addison Gardner, and grandson Corey Scharnhorst, all of Lansing KS, and a sister Mary Herbstreith of Colorado. Memorial suggestions to St Jude’s Children’s Hospital or an animal charity of your choice will be accepted through Davis Funeral Chapel. Visitation or a celebration of life will be held at a future date.
