The Missouri Western men's basketball team returns plenty of talent for next season, but they'll have to replace their top scorer.

Junior guard and Omaha native Tyrell Carroll announced on Twitter Tuesday his plans to enter the NCAA transfer portal.

Carroll said in a statement, "I would like to thank all of my coaches as well as the MWSU athletic department for giving me an opportunity to represent the school. Huge thank you to all of the genuine teammates I've played with over the last three years!"

Carroll, a first-team all-MIAA selection in 2020, was a three-year starter for Missouri Western and led the Griffons in scoring in each of the past two seasons.

In 2020-21, Carroll averaged 17.2 points and 3.8 rebounds per contest. He also led the team with 98 assists and 55 steals.

Missouri Western will return Caleb Bennett, Q Mays, Will Eames and Reese Glover to their lineup next year - all of whom averaged 10.8 points or more per game this past season.

The Griffons ended this past season with a 14-11 record and a trip to the NCAA tournament for the first time in 10 years.
