Highway Patrol investigating officer-involved shooting in St. Joseph

The Missouri State Highway Patrol is investigating an officer-involved shooting at a St. Joseph grocery store in which St. Joseph police report no one was harmed.

The St. Joseph Police Department reports an officer attempted to arrest customers suspected of shoplifting at the Price Chopper on North Belt Highway just before 10 o'clock Friday evening. According to the department, the preliminary investigation indicates one suspect drew a weapon during the course of the arrest. The officer fired his gun. The department reports the officer was not harmed and that no other injuries were reported. The suspects fled the area.

The investigation has been handed over to the patrol.
