One day after adding to their bullpen, signing reliever Alex Lange, the Kansas City Royals shored up their infield, agreeing to terms with second baseman Jonathan India to avoid arbitration.
India had been considered a candidate to be non-tendered following a first season in Kansas City in which he posted a .233/.323/.346 line. He was acquired in November in a trade that sent Brady Singer to the Reds. The Royals though signed India to a one year deal, a source telling MLB.com the deal is worth $8 million. He made just over $7 million in 2025.
Kansas City did also reach an agreement with relief pitcher James McArthur to avoid arbitration as well. Friday is Major League Baseball’s tender deadline. Clubs must decide to offer a 2026 contract to their arbitration-eligible players or otherwise non-tender them, making them free agents.
