Connie Steeby February 3, 1949-May 5, 2026

Connie Winn Steeby was born in St. Joseph on February 3, 1949, one of six children of Robert Orval and Juanita Frances (Guinn) Deatherage. She attended Mid-Buchannan High School and later Missouri Western State College.

Connie worked as a mechanic, then later worked highway construction. It was there she met Clifford E. Steeby, and they married on June 25, 1987.

They made their home south of Oregon, where Connie enjoyed flower gardening, fishing, raising buffalo, and cooking for family gatherings. She was especially known for her famous tenderloins, egg noodles with turkey, and mashed potatoes.

Connie passed away at her Oregon, Missouri home on Tuesday, May 5, 2026 at the age of 77.

She was preceded in death by her parents; infant twin brother, Ronnie Deatherage; infant sister, Sue Ann Deatherage; brother, Richard “Dick” Deatherage; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Buford and Eva Pauline Steeby; brothers-in-law, Rick Roberts, Rex Morrison, and Donald Bruce Meyer; sisters-in-law, Kathern Hurst and Phyllis Morrison; and nephew, Shelby Frederick.

Connie is survived by her husband Clifford, of their home; son, Robert Simpson, St. Joseph, Missouri; daughter, Stacy (Dave) Sprinkle, McLouth, Kansas; Clifford’s children, Angela (Bryan) Welch, Gower, Missouri, Kelly Tredway, Oregon, Missouri, Susan (Michael) Erlbacher, Harlan, Iowa; brother, Robert Deatherage; St. Joseph, Missouri; sister, Wilma Roberts, Agency, Missouri; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Bernadine Meyer, Virginia and True Hicks, and Louella and Jim Riley; grandchildren, James Noah Sipes (Hannah), Travis Sipes (Heather), Mychala Fisher (James), Mason Sipes, Jolie Lannin (Justin), Cole Welch (Cammie), Russell Oulman (Stephanie), Bethany Oulman (Zane), Morgan Josko (Chris), Garett Erlbacher (Rebecca) Reece Erlbacher, Doug Simpson, Tristan Meeks, Hunter Hector, Brandon Hector, Jeffrey Simpson, and Gabby Simpson; and nieces and nephews.

The Steeby family would like to thank Mosaic Hospice workers Jason and Susie, and Chaplain Kyle for the care they gave Connie.

Family visitation: Friday, May 8, 2026, 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm, Chamberlain Funeral Home, Oregon. Funeral services: Saturday, May 9, 2026, 10:30 am, Oregon First Christian Church.
