St. Joseph Police Chief Chris Connally says he’s still short officers, but is more optimistic as he recruits personnel for the St. Joseph Police Department.

Connally says the department seems to be seeing more interest with more applications for police officer coming in.

“It’s going the right direction,” Connally tells host Barry Birr on the KFEQ Hotline. “I think something else that’ll help, if we can get more of the positives out there, the positive experience of officers, the positive impacts on the community out there on things like social media, hoping that will generate some additional interest.”

Connally says not all applicants follow through, but the more who apply the greater chance of filling vacant positions.

The St. Joseph Police Department has 23 vacancies. The department is authorized to have 138 commissioned officers.
