Buchanan County Sheriff Bill Puett will again run for re-election.

Puett says several factors went into his decision to run again.

“I am very committed to our community and I’m committed to our members here,” Puett tells reporters during his announcement at the Law Enforcement Center. “I still feel that I have a lot to offer and I want to continue to contribute to our community and making it a better, safer place.”

Puett says he still has work to do, because Buchanan County faces many threats.

“And we continue to see, as you know, when we send scam alerts out, we see elderly folks that are threatened and abused. It is unconscionable to think that that happens,” Puett says. “So, those are issues that I really want to work on and continue to fight and get good programs and things in place.”

Puett has been with the Buchanan County Sheriff’s Department for nearly 40 years. He won election as sheriff in 2016. Puett says he is proud of what he has accomplished as sheriff, but says success wouldn’t be possible without the hard work of the department he leads.

“Although, I’m the sheriff and I lead these brave men and women and I greatly appreciate that, a lot of the things that are accomplish are team efforts,” according to Puett. “They’re accomplished by our people. And so, one of the biggest things I can think to say is that we do a lot of great things because of a lot of good people.”

Puett, a Republican, faced a primary challenger in 2020. He won the primary and went on to win re-election.
