The Buchanan County Sheriff's Office will be checking in on 307 registered sex offenders across the county this Halloween. In addition to increased enforcement, around 40 members of the Sheriff's Office and partners with St. Joseph Police and U.S. Marshals will be enforcing the following rules- that sex offenders must:
- Avoid Halloween-related contact with children,
- Remain inside their home between 5 and 10:30 PM, except with prior approval for employment, or medical emergency,
- Leave all outside lighting off during evening hours.
Any and all violations will be sent to the Prosecuting Attorney for criminal charge consideration.
