Steve Saffell, 52, St. Joseph, Missouri, passed away Thursday, April 23, 2026.
He was born December 20, 1973 to Louis G. and Kathleen M. (Lewis) Saffell in Kansas City, Missouri.
Steve graduated with his master’s degree from MWSU, an achievement that reflected both his determination and his belief in the value of education. He carried that commitment into his professional life, where he served as a math coordinator for Missouri Western State University and Bishop LeBlond High School.
He found joy in playing pool, riding his Harley, and following the Kansas City Royals and Chiefs. He also enjoyed listening to music, which was one of the many simple pleasures that brought him comfort and happiness.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Mary and Tom Lewis and paternal grandparents, Nellie and Louie Safell.
Survivors include his parents; sisters, Kelly Saffell-McCants and Deborah Hensley; many beloved aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews.
Funeral Mass 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, April 29, St. Mark’s Catholic Church, Independence, Missouri. A Celebration of Life hosted by Steve’s girlfriend, Danessa Pettite, will be held Friday, May 1, from 6:30 to 10:30 P.M. at PB&J Tipps Sports Bar in St. Joseph, Missouri. The family suggests memorial contributions to a charity of your choice.
