KANSAS CITY, Mo. - The MIAA announced its schedule for the 2020 football season. All 2020-2021 schedules were approved by the Association's CEO Council on Monday, June 15, and the Institutional Representative Council (IRC) on Tuesday, June 9.
In response to the NCAA requirements in 10 maximum allowable contests for the 2020 football season, the MIAA Scheduling Subcommittee recreated the schedules by doing a blind draw. Each team has five home games and five away games. Institutions were asked to submit one date they would like to have protected (e.g. homecoming, family day, etc.) from the original 2020 schedule.
Missouri Western is coming off a 9-3 season that ended with its second consecutive Live United Bowl Championship.

HOME GAME PREVIEWS
Sept. 19 vs Central Oklahoma, 6 p.m., MWSU Family Day
MWSU will open the home portion of its 2020 schedule against the Bronchos of Central Oklahoma. Recently, the series has featured some tightly contested games. The Griffons hung on for a wild 50-43 win in Edmond last year, avenging a 17-16 loss at home to UCO in 2018. The last six meetings between the teams have been decided by 10 points or fewer.
Sept. 26 vs Fort Hays State, 6 p.m., Military Appreciation Game
Back-to-back home games in the first three weeks of the season pits, the Griffons against Fort Hays State. MWSU has won the last two over the Tigers, 28-17 last year in Hays and 23-13 over No. 5-ranked FHSU in 2018. Missouri Western holds the lead in the all-time series, 16-12-1 and is 9-5-1 in St. Joseph against the Tigers.
Oct. 10 vs Missouri Southern, 4 p.m., Homecoming
The updated schedule forced a change in the Homecoming date at Missouri Western which will now pit the Griffons against Missouri Southern on Homecoming in back-to-back seasons. The Griffons triumphed 43-34 last year to stretch their longest ever series win streak to seven games. Southern's last win in the series was the only regular season loss for the 2012 MIAA Champion Griffons and that was in St. Joseph on Homecoming in 2012.
Oct. 24 vs Washburn, 4 p.m., Rogers Pharmacy Hall of Fame Game
Washburn visits Craig Field at Spratt Memorial Stadium for the Rogers Pharmacy Hall of Fame Game. MWSU won 46-21 in Topeka last year and has won back-to-back games against the Ichabods after dropping three-straight in the series between 2015 and 2017. MWSU holds a 28-18 advantage in the all-time series with 15 of those wins coming in St. Joseph.
Nov. 7 vs Northwest Missouri State, 6 p.m., Senior Day
Rivals will face off under the Spratt Memorial Stadium lights for the second consecutive season. While the two faced off in the season opener last season, the 2019 MIAA Co-Champions (Northwest) will face last season's co-runners-up (MWSU) in week nine this year. Fans could be in store for another nail biter in 2020. Last year, both teams rallied late in an eventual 45-35 Northwest victory. The Griffons rallied from 21 down to take a four-point lead with 12:38 remaining before Northwest rattled off two unanswered touchdowns to seal the win. MWSU will be looking for its first win in the rivalry series since the 2012 season finale in Maryville.
Nov. 14 at Central Missouri, 1 p.m.
Missouri Western closes out the 2020 season with last season's MIAA Co-Champions in Northwest and Central Missouri and will look to avenge a pair of near miraculous comebacks. In week three at Spratt Memorial Stadium last year, the Mules built 31-0 and 38-8 third quarter leads before MWSU came back to force overtime with three touchdowns in the final seven minutes of regulation. UCM won it on a field goal in overtime, 48-45. It was the Mules' fifth-straight win in the series.
