Missouri Western cheer squad to host virtual tryouts for 2020-2021

The Missouri Western cheer squad will soon host virtual tryouts for the 2020-21 academic year. Virtual tryouts will be held through a zoom meeting, at which time applicants will be completing the cheer, fight song and interview portion of the tryout process for the 2020-21 school year. A video of the tryout cheers and fight song can be found on the cheer squad's instagram account @_mwsucheer. Applicants will use these videos to learn all of the material needed for the virtual tryout.

The tryout application, which can be found by clicking the link above or here, must be emailed to head coach Arielle Potter ([email protected]) by May 22. Once applicants have submitted this packet and all required items, they will be sent a time and link for the virtual tryout. Once the tryout process is complete, there will be a stunt and tumbling portion of tryouts, which will be completed at a date to be announced. The application packet contains all the information needed for the virtual tryout, any further questions can be directed to Coach Potter.

13 Northwest men's track & field athletes earn MIAA academic honors

The Northwest Missouri State University Bearcat men's outdoor track and field teams had 13 student-athletes honored by the MIAA for their effort in the classroom and on the competition platform.

The MIAA announced its Academic Awards for the 2020 men's outdoor track and field season. More than 160 men's student-athletes were recognized for their work in the classroom.

Two Bearcat men's track and field competitors, Jonathan Bock and Dakota Schmidt, earned the distinguished Academic Excellence Award. An MIAA Academic Excellence Award recipient must have a grade point average used by the institution for purposes of NCAA academic certification of 4.00 or better at the certifying member institution. The honoree also must have at least two terms of attendance at the certifying member institution, excluding summer terms.
