13 Northwest men's track & field athletes earn MIAA academic honors

The Northwest Missouri State University Bearcat men's outdoor track and field teams had 13 student-athletes honored by the MIAA for their effort in the classroom and on the competition platform.

The MIAA announced its Academic Awards for the 2020 men's outdoor track and field season. More than 160 men's student-athletes were recognized for their work in the classroom.

Two Bearcat men's track and field competitors, Jonathan Bock and Dakota Schmidt, earned the distinguished Academic Excellence Award. An MIAA Academic Excellence Award recipient must have a grade point average used by the institution for purposes of NCAA academic certification of 4.00 or better at the certifying member institution. The honoree also must have at least two terms of attendance at the certifying member institution, excluding summer terms.

The achievement of Academic Honor Roll was accomplished by 13 Bearcat men's outdoor track and field performers. To be recognized on the Academic Honor Roll, one must have a grade point average used by the institution for purposes of NCAA academic certification of 3.00 at the certifying member institution. The individual must also have at least two terms of attendance at the certifying member institution, excluding summer terms.

Dave Riggert talked with Missouri Western women's basketball forward Corbyn Cunningham. The senior from Albuquerque, New Mexico discusses the success of her and the Griffons in her first year at MWSU, her basketball journey, growing up in an athletic family and much more.

Cunningham, who transfered to Missouri Western from Howard College, was named First Team All-MIAA this past season as she led Missouri Western in scoring, rebounding and field goal percentage. Cunningham averaged 15.7 points, 8.3 rebounds and she shot 56.4 percent from the field during her junior season.
