Dave Riggert had a chance to talk with Missouri Western running back Shamar Griffith as the Griffons were scheduled to play their annual spring football game this weekend. The senior-to-be from Hannibal, Missouri talks about missing spring ball, his career as a Griffon, helping to build MWSU football back up and he looks ahead to 2020.
Griffith started all 12 games in 2019 as a junior and ran for 826 yards and four touchdowns. He averaged 6.2 yards per carry and added 11 receptions for 186 yards and one score.
Griffth was part of Matt Williamson's first recruiting class and has helped to build the program up from four wins in 2017, to seven wins in 2018 and nine wins last season. In his first three seasons, Griffith has 1891 rushing yards and eight touchdowns and is averaging 6.2 yards per carry for his career.
He and the Griffons are schedule to kick off their 2020 season on Thursday, September 3 at Central Oklahoma.
