The Open Door Food Kitchen is still serving those in need, but with some changes implemented due to the coronavirus pandemic.

"We’re like all the restaurants, we can make food to-go but we can’t allow them to come in, and that makes us feel bad,” says Marsha Rosenthal with the Open Door Food Kitchen. “But we have to do what is safe for everybody, for our staff, for the patrons, for the volunteers who do this for us every day of the week.”

Rosenthal says they are serving over 200 people right now at their location at 615 South 8th.

“We anticipate that the numbers will probably go up with those who are laid off or have lost their jobs,” Rosenthal tells host Barry Birr on the KFEQ Hotline. “We help The Crossing clients who stay there. We are doing everything we can to feed the vulnerable and the hungry.”

Rosenthal says the best way to help is by donating money or quantity items such as food utensils. For more information, call (816) 279-2221.
