Livingston County deputy on leave after fatal shooting

A Livingston County deputy sheriff has been placed on administrative leave after fatally shooting a man during a stop in Wheeling.

A deputy injured in the incident was treated and released from Hedrick Medical Center in Chillicothe.

The Livingston County Sheriff’s Office reports deputies responded to a vehicle stop-investigation in Wheeling last night. According to Livingston County, deputies experienced problems with the adult male driver. A deputy shot the man, who was later pronounced dead at Hedrick.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol is investigating the shooting at the request of Livingston County Sheriff Steve Cox.

The deputy involved in the shooting has been placed on administrative leave.

No other details have been provided. The investigation continues.
