Missouri Governor Mike Parson signed an Executive Order Wednesday morning to postpone the April 7th municipal elections until June 2nd.

Buchanan County Clerk Mary Baack-Garvey says the Clerk and Election Authority Association had been pushing for the postponement.

"Just due to the safety of our election judges, our polling places, our voters, we thought this was the best decision to make because of what is all going on with the coronavirus,” Baack-Garvey says.”

While all other dates changed, the deadline to register to vote as well as to file as a write-in candidate have not changed. Voters still have to be 18-years-old by April 7th to vote in the municipal elections.

Baack-Garvey says she believes the last time an election was postponed was almost 30 years ago.

"I wasn’t here in 1993 when the flood happened, they had to postpone the election for that, but that’s all I’ve heard of with postponing an election," Baack-Garvey says.
