Griffon women's basketball adds junior college PG Kelcie Hale

The Missouri Western women's basketball team is adding junior college point guard Kelcie Hale to their roster as she has verbally committed to the Griffons.

Hale played the past two years at North Iowa Area Community College and she led the Trojans to a 32-1 record this past season and a Region XI championship. Hale was named the Region XI Tournament MVP as she scored 24 points and had four assists in the title game against Kirkwood.

The 5'3" sophomore from Earlham, Iowa was named First Team All-Region XI as she averaged 10.2 points, 3.7 rebounds, 4.5 assists and 2.0 steals per game.

Hale will join a Missouri Western team entering its second season under head coach Candi Whitaker as the Griffons went 21-8 this past season and finished tied for fourth in the MIAA at 13-6.

MWSU men's basketball adds KJCCC DII Player of the Year

The Missouri Western men's basketball team received a verabal committment Tuesday from Johnson County Community College guard JaQuaylon Mays.

The Lincoln, Nebraska native spent two seasons at JCCC and was named the Jayhawk Conference Division II Player of the Year this past season. Mays, who is 6'2" and 155 pounds, led the Cavaliers to a 25-7 record as he averaged 16.9 points, 6.4 rebounds, 4.6 assists and 2.2 steals per game. He shot 53.0 percent from the field, 37.9 percent from the three-point line and 71.9 percent on his free throws.

Mays ranked second in the Jayhawk Conference in scoring, second in made free throws, second in assists, sixth in field goal percentage and eighth in free throw percentage. He scored in double figures a team-best 27 times, including 11 games of 20 or more points.

Mays has two years of eligibility left and he'll join a Griffon team that went 18-14 this past season and finished fourth in the MIAA with a 13-6 league mark.
