U.S. soybean export inspections increased last week, although shipments continued to trail their year-ago pace.
The U.S. Department of Agriculture reported nearly 673,000 metric tons of soybeans were inspected for export during the week ending Sept. 10. That was up from approximately 465,000 metric tons the previous week but below the 823,000 metric tons inspected during the comparable week last year.
Since the new soybean marketing year began Sept. 1, approximately 915,000 metric tons have been inspected for export. That compares with 1.09 million metric tons during the same period last year.
Export inspections for other major crops were mixed.
Corn inspections declined to 1.53 million metric tons from 1.67 million metric tons a week earlier. Wheat inspections improved to nearly 457,000 metric tons but also remained below the year-ago pace.
The latest figures show soybean shipments gaining momentum from the previous week while remaining behind last year’s early-season export pace.
