The Central High School girls basketball team had its season come to an end Wednesday as they lost to Liberty 45-39 in the Class 5 Sectional at Silverstein Eye Centers Arena in Independence.
The Indians end their season 16-12, while Liberty stays undefeated at 27-0 and they'll play Blue Springs in the Class 5 Quarterfinals on Saturday.
Central jumped out to a quick 6-4 lead on Wednesday, but Libery ended the first quarter on an 8-0 run to take a 12-6 lead. The Blue Jays extended their lead to nine points early in the second quarter before Central rallied and used a 12-4 run to end the half and they tied the game 25-25 at halftime.
Neither team could pull away in the second half as Liberty led 34-32 after three quarters, but the Indians went cold and struggled to score in the fourth. With the game tied 35-35, the Blue Jays used a 6-0 run to take their biggest lead of the second half and Central never regained the lead.
Teegan Broaden and Lauren Eiman led the Indians with 10 points each, while Ella Moody added nine.
