KANSAS CITY, Mo. - The MIAA announced its softball athletes of the week awards on Tuesday afternoon and Missouri Western second baseman Sydni Hawkins was one of three student-athletes to receive Co-Hitter of the Week honors for the first time this season.
Hawkins led the Griffons with eight hits in 14 at-bats for a .571 batting average. She doubled, tripled, drove in four runs, scored six and walked twice without a strikeout. She added a .786 slugging average with a .625 on-base percentage as MWSU swept Northwest Missouri and against Drury in two doubleheaders.
The sophomore from Wichita, Kansas was one of three student-athletes honored as co-hitters of the week. The other two honorees were Central Oklahoma's Brighton Gilbert and Nebraska-Kearney's Carlee Liesch.
