Lafayette boys defeat Kearney to win 5th straight district title; Benton falls short

The Lafayette boys' basketball team won its fifth consecutive district championship Friday night as they beat Kearney 57-38 in the Class 4 District 16 title game at Kearney High School.

The Fighting Irish extend their longest winning streak of the season to six games as they improve to 18-9, and LHS has now won 10 of their last 11 games.

Lafayette advances to the Class 4 sectionals on Tuesday as they'll square off against Lincoln Prep at 8:00 p.m. Tuesday inside Liberty North High School. You can listen to the game on KFEQ 680 AM and 107.9 FM, or click here to listen online.

Also Friday, the Benton girls' basketball team played for the Class 4 District 16 championship as well, but they lost to Kearney 48-30.

The Cardinals end their season 11-17.
