Four MWSU women earn All-MIAA honors; Cunningham named 1st Team

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Four members of the Missouri Western women's basketball team received a total of five MIAA postseason awards as announced by the association office on Tuesday. Corbyn Cunningham was named first team forward; Katrina Roenfeldt (G, third team and all-defensive team; Chris Wilson (F, honorable mention; and Anastacia Johnson (G, all-defensive team.

CORBYN CUNNINGHAM - First Team Forward

Cunningham was the only player in the MIAA to rank top-5 in the association in points, rebounds and field goal percentage. In her first season at MWSU, the Albuquerque, New Mexico, native finished fifth in the MIAA in scoring (15.7); third in rebounding (8.5); and third in field goal percentage (57.4%). Cunningham was twice named MIAA Player of the week and turned in nine double-doubles on the season.

KATRINA ROENFELDT - Third Team Guard / All-Defensive

A first team All-MIAA selection as a junior, Roenfeldt filled out her stat line as a senior. The Dodge City, Kansas, native was third on the team averaging 10.4 points per game. She also pulled down 6.2 rebounds per contest. Ronefeldt led the Griffons with 100 total assists and 74 steals. Her 3.6 assists per game were sixth-best in the MIAA; her 1.9 assist to turnover ratio was third-best; and her 2.6 steals per game ranked second in the MIAA.

CHRIS WILSON - Honorable Mention Forward

In her one and only season as a Griffon, Wilson joined Cunningham to form the MIAA's most formidable post duo. The St. Louis, Missouri, native's 13.5 points per game ranked 14th in the MIAA. She averaged 7.6 rebounds per game, good for seventh in the MIAA and her 52.1% shooting from the field was fifth-best in the MIAA. Wilson recorded six double-doubles on the season and was named MIAA Player of the Week once.

ANASTACIA JOHNSON- All-Defensive

Often charged with defending the opposing team's top guard, Johnson ranked fourth in the MIAA with 2.2 steals per game in her senior season. Many of those steals turned into assists for the Aurora, Colorado, native as she ranked 12th in the MIAA by averaging 2.9 assists per game and fourth in assist to turnover ratio at 1.8. Johnson was also the team's fourth-leading scorer, averaging 9.5 points per game.

Missouri Western finished the season 21-7 overall and 13-6 in MIAA play, finishing in a three-way tie for third place in the association standings. The Griffons begin postseason play on Friday, March 6 as the No. 6 seed in the MIAA Championships. They will play No. 3-seeded Nebraska Kearney at 2:15 p.m. at Kansas City's Municipal Auditorium.
