KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Missouri Western men's basketball was represented by three Griffons on the All-MIAA teams released by the association on Tuesday. Forward Will Eames was named MIAA Freshman of the Year, the first time a Griffon has ever received the honor, and also received an honorable mention. Guard Tyrell Carroll became the first Griffon named first team in 14 years. Tyus Millhollin received honorable mention as a guard.
TYRELL CARROLL - First Team Guard
The sophomore from Omaha completed one of the most complete seasons by a Griffon in recent memory. Carroll scored 491 points with 105 rebounds, 166 assists and 60 steals. He led the team, averaging 17.5 points per game, 5.9 assists, 2.1 steals and pulled down 3.8 rebounds per game. Carroll ranked fifth in the MIAA in scoring, eighth in field goal percentage (47.2%, second in assists, fifth in assist to turnover ratio (1.9, second in steals and sixth in minutes played. He needs 12 more assists to break the MWSU single season record.
WILL EAMES - MIAA Freshman of the Year / Hon. Mention Forward
Eames battled through injuries to averaged 11.1 points and 7.3 rebounds per game. During MWSU's seven-game winning streak, the redshirt freshman from Lee's Summit averaged a double-double per game. Despite missing four games, Eames finished sixth in the MIAA in rebounding. He recorded the first of three double-doubles on the season at Central Missouri, scoring a career-high 25 points with 10 rebounds. He pulled down 14 boards against Nebraska Kearney recorded three games with four made 3-point field goals.
TYUS MILLHOLLIN - Honorable Mention Guard
In an impressive senior season, Millhollin saved his best for last. The Rescue, California, native entered the final regular season game needing to make 10 3-pointers to tie the MWSU single-season record of 96. He hit all 10 in one game, not only tying the single season record but also breaking the program's single game record and scoring a career-high 34 points. Millhollin averaged 15.8 points per game, good for 10th-best in the MIAA. His 3.3 made threes per game were tied for the most in the MIAA and his 39.5% 3-point shooting percentage was sixth-best. He also shot 82.5% at the free throw line to finish sixth in the MIAA. Millhollin dished out 2.6 assists per game, good for 16th in the MIAA.
Following the most successful season for the program in 10 years, the Griffons will head to Kansas City as the No. 4 seed in the MIAA Championships where they will face No. 5 seed Washburn on March 6 at 6 p.m.
