TOPEKA, Kan. – Missouri Western Baseball played game two of the three-game series at Washburn on Saturday afternoon. The Griffons (4-13, 0-2 MIAA) fell to the Ichabods (10-8, 2-0 MIAA) 11-3.
The Griffons started the day offensively from a Ben Tsui run in the first inning on a Zach Hanlan sacrifice fly. Following a two-run answer by the Ichabods in the second, it was all Washburn from there. The Washburn offense was highlighted with a seven-run push in the seventh and eighth innings to bury the lead in game two.
Jacob Head was the winning pitcher for the Ichabods. Through seven innings pitched, Head struck out two batters and only allowed three runs. Jack Schmedding received his first loss of the season in his first start for the Griffons. Schmedding allowed five runs on seven hits in 6.1 innings pitched.
NOTABLES:
- The Griffon pitching staff tallied five strikeouts throughout the contest.
MWSU also left seven batters on base, including three in the bottom of the eighth.
- Missouri Western's hitters added six hits as well. Nolan Meyer led the way with two, while Zach Pych, Chas Verduzco, Reid Briney and Alex Crouch added a hit for game two.
- Pych and Ben Tsui tallied the three runs for the Griffon offense. In addition to the sacrifice fly, Tsui scored his second run on a wild pitch in the sixth inning.
