Northwest softball gets blanked by Minnesota State 8-0

EMPORIA, Kansas – The Northwest Missouri State University softball team finished the Emporia State 5-State Classic Sunday with an 8-0 loss to Minnesota State.

Minnesota State grabbed an early 2-0 lead in the first inning over the Bearcats. The Mavericks went on to score three more runs in the bottom of the fourth and sixth innings.

Minnesota State went on to secure the 8-0 win, as the Bearcats could not produce offensively. Northwest tallied two hits on the day with singles from Olivia Daugherty and Sydne Brashear.

Northwest is 3-11 on the season and will travel to Springfield, Missouri next weekend action in the Drury Invitational.

NOTES: Olivia Daugherty leads the team in batting average with a .396. She has five doubles, two home runs and six RBI. Sydne Brashear isn't far behind with a .391 batting average, two doubles, two home runs and seven RBI. Kaitlyn Weis is slugging a .356 average with three doubles, three home runs and eight RBI. Rachel Smith has appeared in 10 games with a 4.49 ERA and a 2-4 win-loss record.
