ST. JOSEPH - Missouri Western Baseball opened their home slate against Minot State on Friday. The Griffons (3-10) fell to the Beavers (5-3) in both games of the doubleheader 5-8 in game one and 0-10 in game two.
GAME ONE:
- Colby Tam hit his third home run of the season in the fourth inning. His hit drove in Andrew Meier and Troy Davern, giving the Griffons the 3-2 lead.
- Minot State rallied back in the fifth inning to retake the lead 4-3, but then the Griffons swung back when Josh Robinson hit a single to drive in Chas Verduzco to tie it up in the seventh.
- In the final three innings of the game, the Griffons left seven batters on base.
- MWSU finished the game with eight hits. Andrew Meier led the way with two, tallying his season total to 17. Meier also has eight RBIs on the season.
- Zach Pych, Maurice Bruce, Reid Briney and Troy Davern also tallied hits in the first matchup.
- Jake Gilbert took the loss for the Griffons, giving up four runs in the final two innings.
GAME TWO:
- Justin Wood got the start in the second game. Although he had three strikeouts, Wood gave up seven runs in four innings pitched.
- The Griffon pitching staff tallied eight strikeouts throughout the contest.
- Nolan Myhre got the win for the Beavers. Myhre struck out seven Griffons and walked two in seven innings pitched.

The Griffons will close out the four-game series with Minot State with a second doubleheader on Saturday starting at 1 p.m.
