Northwest softball falls to Southern Arkansas and Maryville Sunday

BENTONVILLE, Arkansas – The Northwest Missouri State University softball team suffered two losses Sunday against Southern Arkansas and Maryville to end the Alvy Early Classic.

The Bearcats could not produce offensively and dropped game one 8-0 against Southern Arkansas.

Later Sunday afternoon, the Bearcats faced Maryville and dropped their second game of the day 9-1.

Maryville went up 9-0 early over the Bearcats in the first two innings.

In the top of the third inning, Olivia Daugherty doubled to right field to start the momentum for the Bearcats. Next at bat, Sydne Brashear knocked an RBI single to put the Bearcats on the board, but it wasn't enough to catch back up to the Maryville lead.

The Bearcats fell short and finished their road trip in Bentonville, Arkansas, with four setbacks on the weekend.

Northwest will travel to Emporia, Kansas next weekend to compete in the 5-States Classic.

NOTES: Brashear leads the team in batting average with a .429. Brashear has one double, one home run and four RBI. Daugherty is slugging a .345 average with three doubles, one home run and a team high of five RBI. Kaitlyn Weis isn't far behind with a .321 average, two doubles, one home run and four RBI.
