Wind chill advisory issued, closing several area schools, including St. Joseph

A strong cold front has pushed into the area bringing northwest winds which will drive wind chills dangerously low.

Several area schools have closed, including the St. Joseph School District, St. Joseph parochial schools, and St. Joseph Christian Schools. Missouri Western State University has canceled classes today.

The National Weather Services has issued a wind chill advisory which remains in effect until noon.

It will be sunny today with a high only in the teens. Wind chills will dip to between minus-5 and minus-15.

Clear tonight, extremely cold with a low of around one.

It will warm up a bit on Friday with a high expected to be near 28. The wind will make the temperature feel more like minus-9 to around one.

Warmer this weekend with a high Sunday expected to hit 50.
