MAGNOLIA, Ark. – The Missouri Western Baseball team (1-5) lost both games of their doubleheader Saturday at Southern Arkansas (7-0, 1-0 and 7-2.
SAU's Zach Smith held the Griffs to four hits and struck out seven batters in eight innings. Smith walked away with the win in game one 1-0.
In game two, the Muleriders topped the Griffons 7-2. SAU's Parker Abrego pitched the entire game, striking out six batters and allowing six hits. Through four innings, Southern Arkansas scored six runs. A solo home run by Zach Hanlan managed to wake up the bats for the Griffons tallying four more hits and another run following the bomb to left field.
NOTABLES:
- Justin Wood started game one for the Griffons. Wood struck out six batters and only allowed five hits throughout the contest.
- Offensively, the Griffons tallied five hits in the first game. Andrew Meier accounted for two of those hits, while Ben Tsui, Reid Briney and Brock Wrolstad added the remaining three.
- Missouri Western's pitching staff of Roy Robles, Jack Schmedding and Jake Gilbert combined seven strikeouts and five hits in game two.
- Maurice Bruce hit a sac fly to right field, allowing Andrew Meier to score the second run in game two.

The Griffons return to Walker Stadium to round the series with a fourth game against the Muleriders on Sunday.
