Franklin Crawford Peters was born July 20, 1929 in Highland, Kansas to John and Blanche Ptomey Peters.
He grew up running the fields and farm with his brothers and sister in Iowa Point. Frank joinedthe United States Navy at the age of 17 and served his Country faithfully and honorably.He was a Warrior Sailor serving in the Korean War and Vietnam War. Frank was a bosun’smate; the deck sailors who drove the ship, heaved the lines, and made the ship look right. Heserved on ships such as the USS Breckinridge, the Radford, and the L.Y. Spear. As a ChiefPetty Officer, he ran river patrol boats out of Danang, Vietnam. Frank retired as a Senior ChiefBoatswain’s Mate after 24 years of service.
Upon his retirement from the navy he settled in Northeast Kansas. Frank was an avidoutdoorsman and enjoyed hunting, fishing, and telling sea stories, many of which were true. Healways had a project of some sort in progress and he spent many hours taking care of his dogs.Another favorite pastime was playing practical jokes on his many nieces and nephews who saythat Uncle Frank always had a kind word for them, and they will truly miss him.
Mr. Peters passed away on February 4, 2020 in the Hiawatha Community Hospital after a briefbout with pneumonia,
Mr. Peters is preceded in death by his first wife Tommi Peters, infant son Arthur Dean Peters,step-daughter Nicole Dillon and brother Bill Peters.
He is survived by wife Dixie Peters, children: Patricia Peters Martin (Ron, John Karl Peters (Jen, Cheryl Bickley (Brian, several grandchildren and great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. Also surviving are siblings: Pat Olson, Wayne Peters, and Jerry Peters.A Celebration of Frank’s life is planned for 11 a.m. Saturday, February 8, at Chapel Oaks Funeral Home in Hiawatha. Shane Spangler will officiate.The family will meet with friends one hour prior to services.Memorial contributions are suggested to the Brown County Veterans Honor Guard, sent in care of the funeral home, 124 S 7th St., 66434.
