Griffons rout Newman 81-57 for fourth straight win

WICHITA, Kan. - The Missouri Western men's basketball team (11-11, 7-4) completed a road sweep and won its fourth consecutive game 81-57 at Newman (8-14, 2-11) on Saturday. For a second consecutive game, the Griffons led wire-to wire, never trailing in two straight road games.

Missouri Western got off to a hot start, jumping out to a 9-0 lead and eventually leading 14-3. Missouri Western led by as many as 32 points in the game, shooting 47.7% from the field and holding Newman to 30.5% shooting. For a second-straight game, five Griffons scored in double figures with two coming off the bench.

With the win and other results around the MIAA on Saturday, the Griffons will return to the MWSU Fieldhouse next week tied for fourth place in the association standings with Washburn.

NOTABLES

- The Griffons outscored the Jets by 12 in the paint, 30-18.

- Missouri Western's bench scored 29 pints, with JaRon Thames scoring 13 off the bench and Reese Glover adding 12.

- MWSU held Newman to just six 3-point attempts in the game while the Griffons made 10 of their 29 shots from long range.

- Tyrell Carroll went 9 of 14 from the field to lead all scorers with 22 pionts to go with his six rebounds and six assists.

- Will Eames scored 11 points on 4 of 9 shooting.

- Tyus Millhollin scored 12 points with three assists.

- Tony Chukwemeke pulled down a career-high seven rebounds, playing more than 24 minutes in the game.

- Beau Baker had a team-high eight rebounds with his six points.
