WICHITA, Kan. - The Missouri Western women's basketball team (15-5, 7-4) got back in the win column with a 70-59 victory at Newman (9-14, 4-9) Saturday that snapped a two-game skid for MWSU. The Griffons bested their win total from 2018-19 with eight games remaining in the season.
MWSU found itself down early, but only by three points and it was the last deficit for the Griffons who shot 46.7% from the field and 57.1% from 3-point range. Five Griffons scored in double figures, led by Chris Wilson's 17 points. Wilson was 8 of 14 from the field in her second game back from a knee injury.
NOTABLES
- Missouri Western led by as many as 17 points.
- Newman cut the Griffon lead to nine late in the fourth quarter, the closest the Jets had been since early in the first.
- MWSU held Newman to just two first half points in the paint and outscored the Jets by 16 in the lane on the day (36-20).
- Anastacia Johnson scored 12 points with seven rebounds, four assists, four steals and a block.
- Corbyn Cunningham picked up her fifth double-double in the last six games with 11 points and 11 rebounds.
- Katrina Roenfeldt and Kylee Williams each scored 11 points as well.
UP NEXT
The Griffons return home to host Lincoln on Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. in the MWSU Fieldhouse. The Blue Tigers fell to 3-17 and 0-11, Saturday, with a 68-57 loss to Emporia State.
