EDMOND, Okla. - The Northwest Missouri State University defeated the University of Central Oklahoma Bronchos 63-60 in Edmond, Oklahoma. This is the first time in program history that the Bearcats have won back-to-back games on the road against the Bronchos.
Going into this game the Bronchos were ranked third in the MIAA with a 9-3 MIAA record. The Bearcats were down 44-34 in the middle of the third quarter, and went on a 24-6 run to take a 58-50 lead in the fourth quarter. The Bearcats made 13 threes in the contest, shooting 41.9% from behind the three-point line. Northwest's defense shined in this game, holding Central Oklahoma to 33.8% from the field and only 23.1% from behind the arc. The 60 points that the Bronchos scored was tied for their second lowest scoring total on the year. The Bearcats outrebounded the Bronchos 39-36, which makes the Bearcats 6-0 when they grab more boards than their opponent.
Jaelyn Haggard scored 15 points on 9 field goal attempts to lead the Bearcats in scoring. Mallory McConkey added 11 and Mia Stillman added 10. Stillman led Northwest with nine rebounds. McConkey led the Bearcats with 5 assists and 2 steals. The Bearcats were able to overcome 23 turnovers on the game. Northwest shot 14-18 from the free-throw line on the game. The Bearcat bench outscored the Bronchos bench 26-18.
UCO only had two scorers in double figures on the game. Kelsey Johnson led all scorers with 16 points, followed by Micayla Haynes with 15. Clary Donica led UCO in rebounds with seven and Lauren Chancellor led the team with three assists.
Northwest will be back in action against Central Missouri on Thursday, Feb. 6, at 5:30 p.m. in Bearcat Arena.
