Pets and comedy will combine this weekend for a show that will help raise funds for the new animal shelter building in St. Joseph.

A portion of the ticket sales from the Popovich Comedy Pet Theater show will go toward the renovation of the new animal shelter building on Corporate Drive. According to the show's website, each of the pets in the show has been rescued from an animal shelter.

Kappy Hodges with the Friends of the St. Joseph Animal Shelter says, so far, through several fundraisers and donations, they have raised over a million dollars toward the $1.5 million goal.

“All of the people of St. Joe have helped us with that and it’s wonderful and we are so grateful," Hodges says. "When this animal shelter is open, it is going to be just a real jewel for our community and it’ll be because everyone pulled together and did it and it makes us a little verklempt, makes us very grateful and excited about it.”

The Popovich Comedy Pet Theater show is at 2 p.m. on Saturday at the Missouri Theatre. Click here for tickets and more information.
