Evergy is prepared should the weather conditions cause power outages in its service area.

Evergy spokesman Dan Hegeman says ice storms create the biggest headache for electric utilities.

“Ice on our lines creates much more of a problem than snow. Snow just falls off. Ice sticks to the lines and can create great difficulties,” Hegeman tells St. Joseph Post. “That’s why electric utility companies always are more fearful of ice storms than snow storms and even great winds.”

Hegeman says Evergy’s power lines are built to withstand up to a quarter inch of ice.

Customers can report power outages by calling 1-888-544-4852 or visit its website.
