Kansas man, teen dead after SUV collides with Volkswagen

FRANKLIN COUNTY — Two people died in an accident just after 7 a.m. Wednesday in Franklin County.

The Kansas Highway Patrol reported a 1998 Volkswagen Passat driven by James Gregory Tracy, 67, Rantoul, was eastbound on Kansas 68 Highway eight miles east of Ottawa.

The driver lost control of the vehicle and struck a steel guard rail. The Volkswagen veered off into the westbound lane of traffic.

A 2018 Ford Explorer driven by Erica Loriene Drinkard, 40, Paola, struck the Volkswagen on both passenger side doors.

Tracy and a passenger in the Volkswagen Harry Ray Mock Jr., 14, were pronounced dead at the scene. EMS transported Drinkard to Overland Park Regional Medical Center.

All three were properly restrained at the time of the accident, according to the KHP.
