A very cold morning to start out the day with temperatures in the single digits and wind chill values into the negative values. We will quickly heat up into the 20s and 30s by the afternoon and will even go above freezing south of the Missouri River. A long duration winter storm system will approach the area tonight with snow starting in eastern KS and into western MO by midnight. This snow will move east over the entire area with a switch to a rain and snow mix in the afternoon Wednesday for all but northern Missouri. This rain and snow mix will likely last through Thursday late morning before turning to all rain until sunset. After sunset on Thursday all precipitation will quickly turn to snow and last on and off through Friday. Overall totals will be 1-2” south of the Missouri River and 2-5” north of the river. Any slight change in surface temperature could have major impacts on snow totals, so please keep a close eye on the forecast as we move into the middle of the week.
