Missouri Western women roll to 71-53 win at Northwest

MARYVILLE, Mo. – The Missouri Western women's basketball team (13-3, 5-2) bounced back with a comfortable 71-53 win at rival Northwest Missouri State (8-8, 3-4) on Saturday afternoon.

MWSU trailed for just 37 seconds early in the contest, leading by as many as 19 points at several points in the game. The Griffons posted their highest MIAA field goal percentage of the season, shooting 52.5% from the floor. Four of five starters scored in double figures with Corbyn Cunningham leading the way for MWSU. The junior forward scored 21 points with 10 rebounds and led the team with a career-high six assists.

NOTABLES

- MWSU shot 58% in the first half to take a 39-22 lead to the break.

- After Northwest shot 50% from the field in the first quarter, MWSU limited the Bearcats to 18.8% (3-16) shooting in the second quarter.

- The Griffons needed just five 3-point field goals, scoring 36 points in the paint to Northwest's 16.

- MWSU scored 15 second chance points and didn't allow any for Northwest, holding the Bearcats to just three offensive rebounds.

- On the glass, the Griffons pulled down 48 boards to Northwest's 20.

- Simone Walker started with Chris Wilson out with an injury. Walker scored 10 points and matched a career-high with eight rebounds.

- Anastacia Johnson also matched a career-high on the glass, pulling down seven rebounds with 14 points and two steals.

- Katrina Roenfeldt scored eight of her 10 points in the second half and added seven rebounds and five assists.
