Winter weather will return to the area Thursday night into Friday morning with a mix of snow/freezing rain/sleet. A Winter Weather Advisory has been issued for the area with hazardous conditions expected for the Friday commute, especially over the KC Metro area with sleet and freezing rain likely. All precipitation is expected to transition over to rain by the afternoon for those of us south of the MO River, but the wintry mix will remain over northern Missouri through sunset. Overall 1-3” of snowfall and a Glace to 0.25” of ice is possible with this storm. We recommend avoiding any travel Friday if possible. If you have to travel then please check road conditions and be careful as roads will likely be hazardous. Here’s the 7-day forecast from the National Weather Service:
Today: Partly sunny, with a high near 26. Wind chill values between -1 and 9. North wind 5 to 8 mph becoming east northeast in the afternoon.
Tonight: Snow, mainly after midnight. Low around 21. East southeast wind 5 to 10 mph, with gusts as high as 18 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New snow accumulation of less than a half inch possible.
Friday: Snow and sleet before 2 p.m., then sleet, possibly mixed with freezing rain between 2 p.m. and 3 p.m., then rain after 3 p.m. High near 36. Southeast wind 11 to 16 mph, with gusts as high as 31 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. Little or no ice accumulation expected. New snow and sleet accumulation of 1 to 2 inches possible.
Friday Night: Rain before 5 a.m., then a chance of rain and snow. Low around 25. Blustery, with a south southwest wind 8 to 13 mph becoming west northwest 16 to 21 mph after midnight. Winds could gust as high as 33 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. Little or no snow accumulation expected.
Saturday: Sunny, with a high near 31. Blustery, with a northwest wind 18 to 23 mph, with gusts as high as 37 mph.
