Mostly sunny today with temps near 40

Winter weather will return to the area Thursday night into the early afternoon Friday. Expect precipitation to start out as snow with a transition to a wintry mix Friday morning, followed by all rain by the afternoon. This could cause issues for the Friday morning commute, but more details will be available as we near the end of the week. Here’s the 7-day forecast from the National Weather Service:

Today: Mostly sunny, with a high near 39. Calm wind becoming east around 6 mph in the afternoon.

Tonight: A slight chance of drizzle after 9 p.m. Mostly cloudy, with a steady temperature around 38. East wind 5 to 7 mph becoming light and variable after midnight.

Wednesday: Mostly cloudy, then gradually becoming sunny, with a temperature falling to around 31 by 5 p.m. West southwest wind 5 to 15 mph becoming north northwest in the afternoon. Winds could gust as high as 26 mph.

Wednesday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 13. North wind 5 to 9 mph, with gusts as high as 18 mph.

Thursday: Partly sunny, with a high near 30. Calm wind becoming east around 6 mph in the afternoon.

Thursday Night: Snow, mainly after midnight. Low around 24. Chance of precipitation is 80%.

Friday: Snow before 11 a.m., then rain and snow between 11 a.m. and noon, then rain after noon. High near 43. Chance of precipitation is 90%.

Friday Night: Rain likely before 2 a.m., then a chance of rain and snow between 2 a.m. and 3 a.m., then a chance of snow after 3 a.m. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 25. Chance of precipitation is 70%.
