CARTHAGE, Mo. (AP) — A man was shot to death by law enforcement officers after he exchanged gunfire with them following a police that ended in Carthage, law enforcement authorities said.
The shooting occurred Sunday night in a parking lot in Carthage when two Missouri State Highway Patrol officers and a Jasper County sheriff's deputy confronted the man, Carthage police Chief Greg Dagnan said.
The chase began when a Newton County deputy responded to a report of an intoxicated driver. The truck driver fled into Jasper county, where patrol troopers and the Jasper County deputies joined the pursuit.
Eventually, the driver stopped in Carthage, got out of the truck and exchanged gunfire with the officers, who returned fire and killed him, trooper Sam Carpenter said.
One trooper was grazed by a bullet but no officers were injured.
