A 64-year-old St. Joseph man has been found guilty of two counts of sodomy by a Buchanan County jury.

The Buchanan County Prosecuting Attorney’s office reports Cairo Delanie Potts was found guilty after a trial which began in St. Joseph Tuesday.

Prosecutors say two victims recounted during trial testimony ongoing sexual abuse that took place over a prolonged period, beginning in the 1990’s. Neither victim reported the abuse until 2017. Experts testified at trial for the prosecution that it is normal for children sexually abused to not disclose the abuse immediately.

Jurors deliberated for more than four hours before returning a guilty verdict. Potts, who is scheduled to be sentenced in March, faces up to a life prison term.
