ST. JOSEPH - After shaking off the rust of having not played a game in two weeks, the Missouri Western women's basketball team (9-2) cruised to a 76-48 win over Avila (6-5) in the MWSU Fieldhouse.
Avila jumped out to a 7-3 lead, but Missouri Western ended the first quarter on an 18-2 run to take a 21-9 lead after one quarter of play. The Griffons rolled from there. Five different players scored in double figures and six had at least five rebounds for a season-high 51 total boards.
NOTABLES
- Missouri Western forced 24 Avila turnovers, totaling 16 steals with 21 points scored off the turnovers.
- The Griffons scored 48 of their points in the paint, outscoring Avila by 28 in the lane.
- MWSU also outscored Avila 27-5 on fast breaks.
- MWSU's bench added 28 points, including 10 from Anastacia Johnson. Johnson also had seven rebounds, two assists and three steals.
- Katrina Roenfeldt scored 10 points with a team-high six assists and four steals. She also had seven rebounds.
- Chris Wilson led MWSU with 17 points and was one of three Griffs with seven rebounds.
- Corbyn Cunningham scored 15 with six boards.
